F I N A L V I D E OEVALUATIONCreating this preliminary task helped me to understand more about what would work and what wouldn't work when making a film without having to worry about anything going wrong. In the preliminary task a couple of different shots were used. Adding different shots makes the product more interesting as a variety of perspectives are used. The shots used include a handheld shot, a close up and match on action as well as taking the rule of thirds and 180 degree rule into consideration. HANDHELDThe handheld shot is a shot taken using a camera without a tripod or any equipment to steady it. Handheld shots are often shaky and help to give the perspective of the character as they are often paired with point of view shots. An example of where a handheld shot was used in this task was here: CLOSE-UPClose-ups can help to display how a character is feeling, focussing on facial expressions made by the actors. They mainly hi light certain features of an actors performance or certain occurrences taking place in a scene. An example of a close-up being used in my preliminary task: MATCH ON ACTIONA match on action shot is where two shots are linked with another shot. This creates a smoother transition between shots and makes the viewer feel more comfortable with the changing scenery. An example of this in the preliminary task is here: RULE OF THIRDS & 180° RULEThe rule of thirds can create an idea of conflict when used in a certain way. The way this is used in my preliminary task is when Jasmine gets fired. As Danny, the person doing the firing, is sitting on the opposite side to Jasmine an opposite mind set is represented. Nothing can be seen in the middle or far section of the frame, adding more tension between the characters. This scene where Danny and Jasmine are having a conversation displays the 180 degree rule as the camera does not cross the imaginary line, making the scene easier to follow. FEEDBACKGood feedback for this task included that though the music was not royalty free it worked well with the theme of the piece and it had a good sense of continuity.
Areas which we could work on include the match on action which could run a bit smoother and lie a bit better with the shot after it after the character has walked through the door.
